Blackjack Basics – Part 1

The main concept of the card game is to be dealt cards totaling up to twenty-one. Each blackjack player is dealt two cards. When a player is handed a nine or less and an Ace they have been dealt a soft hand. When the gambler receives no Ace it is known as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been handed to all players at the blackjack table, including the dealer, every black jack player is given the opportunity to make one of six actions:

Taking another card (Hit): When a blackjack player says "hit" the dealer will deal them another card, if the adding of that card makes the total greater than twenty-one the blackjack player will have busted and be excluded from the game, if the card pushes the value of the hand to 21 the blackjack player is the winner and if the total hasn’t yet reached twenty one they are still in the game.

Keeping the hand you have been dealt: If a black jack player is happy with the hand they’ll stand. Once this has happened the dealer will reveal his or her hand and the player who has accumulated twenty one or the nearest to 21 will acquire a win.

Doubling Down: A blackjack player may ask to double down which increases the bet by 100% they have made. As soon as you’ve taken this action you can only be given one additional card. The specifics of doubling down are normally specified by the blackjack table or casino game rules so prior to betting make sure you’re familiar with the casino established rules. If you are playing at a web-based casino this is normally very easy.
